Headache treatment

Is your head hurting, the first step to take for your frequent headaches is to determine what kind of headache you have? Many times headache is a symptom of any other disease or condition, sometime there might not be a clear cause. 

Pay a close attention to your headache signs and symptoms. Note when you feel headache, the symptoms and the potential trigger like food, stress or change in sleep. 

There are several types and sub-types of headaches. Severe daily headache that happens 15 days or more in a month are one sub-type. Tension-type and migraines are also very common sub-types of headaches. They both could be chronic but not always. 

Tension-type headache

The most common type of headache is the tension type headache. You could feel a tight band of pain around your head, a dull ache or pressure. It could cause mild to moderate pain on both sides of the head, it could occur occasionally or it could occur more than 15 days in a month. It could last from half an hour to a week.

Treatment: there are some over the counter medications available which can treat occasional tension type headaches.

Daily prescription medicines might manage chronic tension-type headaches. Stress reduction therapies might also help to treat tension type headache such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, massage and acupuncture. 

Migraines

Migraine is another common type of headache. The women are affected three times more than men by migraines. Migraines have symptoms like

Moderate to severe pain, pulsate, can cause nausea, vomiting or increased sensitivity towards sounds and lights, it affects one side of the head but it can also affect both side of the head, the migraine can last from four to 72 hours if not treated. 

Treatment: The treatment of migraine is aimed to relived symptoms and prevents the additional attack. The migraine treatment includes the medication and therapies.
